The Martin County Public Library System provides space for our research collection at the Blake Library (2351 SE Monterey Road). The Genealogy Room, located behind the reference desk of the main reading room, is open during the library's operational hours.
Experienced and knowledgeable research volunteers are scheduled throughout the week:
Sunday - 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Monday through Friday - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday - 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
First Saturday of the month - 10 a.m. to noon (DAR representative)
Computer Databases
The Genealogy Room has two computers that provide access to Ancestry.com, Family Search.org and AmericanAncestors.org. Each site has images of original documents. Click on the icon on the computer desktop to open the database. A volunteer can assist you, if needed.
Books
Our books are organized by country, state, military conflict, ethnicity and religion to aid in browsing. You can use the Martin County Library System catalog to find books, too. In the room, choose the icon on a computer desktop, select Genealogy Room from the dropdown box (everything is default), then search by title, author or subject. (Away from the library, you can use the library catalog here.)
Genealogy Room books cannot be checked out. If you wish to copy something from a book, see the volunteer for assistance.
Surnames Indices
Many published family histories do not have an index. MCGS has created a Family History Surname index that shows major entries in the family histories on our shelves. The “Member Surname” index includes surnames MCGS members are researching. Both may have information on the families you are researching. Ask a volunteer for assistance.
Assistance
